A great year for British sport
The Surrey Sports Awards 2012
On Sunday 9 December, guests, athletes and nominees gathered at the stunning Mercedes Benz World, to celebrate an outstanding year of sport in Surrey.
The event, organised by Active Surrey, now in its sixth year, was hosted by BBC Surrey presenter Tim Durrans, and welcomed back four of the previous Surrey Sports Personality of the Year Winners: Rachel Morris, two time Paralympic Handcycling Medalist; Chris Martin, World Record holding Ocean Rower; Edward Upcott - Gymnastics Acrobatics World Champion and member of Britain’s Got Talent winning “Spelbound”; Liam Heath - a London 2012 kayaking Olympic bronze medallist; who were all inducted into The Surrey Hall of Fame.
London 2012 athletes Sophia Warner, Helen Turner and bronze medallist Karina Bryant as well as local torchbearers James Topping (Paralympic torch), Megan Munro (Olympic torch) and torch legend Austin Playfoot (1948 & 2012 torchbearer ) also took to the stage to share experiences of their Olympic & Paralympic journeys.
